Debra Berres

Debra “Debbie” Sue Berres, age 56, of Cottage Grove, passed away unexpectedly due to a medical emergency on April 14, 2026.

She was born on November 12, 1969, in Madison, WI, the daughter of David and Janice (Cherrey) Berres. Debbie graduated from Madison East High School in 1988 and most recently worked at Coyle Carpet One in Madison as a Facilities Care Specialist, where she has been a dedicated employee for the past nine years. A beloved member of the team, she consistently brought her warm smile and uplifting presence to those around her. She took great pride in her work and truly cherished the “Coyle family” she built there.

Debbie will be remembered for her incredible smile and infectious giggle that could light up any room. She was deeply caring, always wanting to help others, and had a special gift for spreading joy and love wherever she went. 

She was actively involved in Special Olympics, participating in bowling and track and field — activities she truly loved. One of her proudest moments was earning a first-place medal at the state championship in 2019.

Debbie also found joy in crocheting, often making scarves and washcloths to share with others. She was an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan, always knowing when a game was on and what channel to find it. She had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and cats, and they loved her just as much in return.

Above all, Debbie’s family was her greatest joy. She was a proud and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, and she cherished every moment spent with her family and those she held dear. She meant so much to them, and the joy and love she shared so freely will be carried in their hearts always.

Debbie is survived by her parents, David Berres and Janice Bennett; her stepmother Donna Berres, her sisters, Janeen (Michael) Hellenbrand and Brooke Castillo; her brothers, Michael Berres and David (Sarah) Berres; her nieces, Ashley Hellenbrand, Kylie Hellenbrand, Hannah Berres, and Briella Castillo; her nephews, Bryan Berres and Carlon Cystrunk; her grandmother, Carol Cherrey; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and her Coyle Carpet One family. Her warm spirit and uplifting presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Darrell “Bud” Cherrey and Gerald Berres; her grandmother, Mary Berres; and her stepmother, Virginia “Ginny” Berres.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the East Side Club, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison, WI 53714. A memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. to honor Debbie’s life.
