John Weir

John Even Weir, long time resident of Palatine, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2026, Haddies Glen in Madison, WI at the age of 95. He was born on November 4, 1930, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Hugh C. and Mona M. (Kneen) Weir.

John graduated from Galesburg High School and went on to graduate from Bettendorf College. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. John worked at the Alcoa Corporation as a heavy crane operator. He married Kathryn McClung on June 14, 1958 in Chicago, IL. Together, they had two sons, Daniel Weir on April 19, 1960, and Matthew Weir on July 24, 1964. John did pipeline accounting for union oil from 1960 to 1994. He also enjoyed woodworking, garage sailing, baseball and traveling the world.

John is survived by his wife, Kathryn L. Weir; son, Matthew J. Weir; Deanne L. Weir, Kirsten Weir; many nieces and nephews; many grand nieces and nephews; friend and neighbor, Bob Hicks, Diane Selski and Gail Curtin.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Weir; his parents, Hugh and Mona Weir; and Charls Weir, Hugh Weir Jr., Anna Weir, Mona B. Weir, Shirley Weir and Thomas Weir.

John was a great father and friend.

John would like to express his appreciation to the staff of Brighton Hospice, Haddies Glen of Madison, and Bright Star of Madison for the care he received while at these facilities.
