Barbara Wiechers

Barbara Jean Wiechers, age 87, passed away on May 4, 2026 at her home in Madison, WI. She was born on December 15, 1938 in Madison to parents, Florence Anderson and Ronald Halvorsen.

Barbara was a 1956 graduate of Central High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from UW Madison and went on to work thirty-one years for Dane County Social Services, until her retirement in 2002.

Barbara was a member of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, where she loved participating in activities such as boxing, Zumba at Ford’s Gym, rowing with the Lake Mendota Yacht club, and rock climbing at Boulders. She was also an avid UW Badger fan and member of the Packer Backers club. She enjoyed playing piano, knitting, and motorcycle riding. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and cherished family activities.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Laura (Brett) Dollar and Shari Peirce; grandchildren, Carmen (Brad) Pernot, Elizabeth Dollar, Stephanie (Chris) Solano, Jeremiah Dollar, Jonathan (Stephanie) Dollar, Brian Dollar; and 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim (Mary) Halvorsen, Ginny (Ray) Johnston, Marilyn Doss; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, John Halvorsen, Ron Halvorsen, and son-in-law, David Peirce.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2026 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, WI. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
