Carol Hagey

Carol Ann Hagey, age 88, was born on December 11, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon Carstens and Mabel (Bailey) Rader. She passed away peacefully at Parkside Assisted Living in DeForest, Wisconsin on May 7, 2026, with her family at her side.

Beloved wife of Walter “Walt” Hagey, whom she married November 19, 1960, loving mother of Brian (Bing Bing) Hagey of Lodi, Keith (Dawn) Hagey of Sun Prairie, and Heather Blicharz of Madison; adored grandmother of David (Victoria) Hagey, Tristin and Bradyn Blicharz, Alex and Nick Hagey; great grandmother of Dustin and Riely Grosz, Annabelle, Savannah, and Oliver Hagey.

While Carol and Walter shared a loving relationship that started in high school and continued to grow throughout the years. Together they built a life built on love, friendship, and cherished memories. During in their time in Chicago and later in Okauchee and DeForest, they formed many lifelong friendships and enjoyed being active in the DeForest Lion’s Club, Snowmobile Club and DeForest softball community. Together they created many friendships and enjoyed countless Friday night fish fries. As proud parents, they devoted themselves to supporting their children, attending school activities, Scouts, dance, hunting, boating, Christmas tree cutting adventures, and spending time working on cars together in the garage.

Carol treasured the time she spent with her five grandsons, who frequently visited her lake house for memorable sleepovers, fishing adventures and laughter-filled days together. She had a passion for gardening, and her vibrant personality was reflected in her love of beautiful jewelry, which she wore with unmistakable style and flair. Carol also cherished traveling with her entire family to the Dominican Republic and houseboating on the Wisconsin River, creating treasured memories that her family will treasure forever. Nothing brought her more joy than visits from her great-grandchildren, whose presence always filled her heart with joy and brought a warm smile to her face.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Walter Hagey, parents Vernon Carstens and Mabel Rader; sister Audrey Ryan, brother-in-law Bob Ryan, brother Stuart Carstens, and nephews Robert and Scott Ryan.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brighton Hospice and Parkside Assisted Living; and a very special thanks to one of her nurses, Megan Schwantes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brighton Hospice.

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Ryan Funeral Home, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
