Obituary

MADISON – Joseph James Halama, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Joe was born on April 10, 1961, on a Chateauroux Air Force Base in France to Eugene and Marian (Fulton) Halama while his dad was stationed there. He grew up in Kenosha, WI and later moved to Madison. Joe met Bonnie Kaschinske, the mother of Emily, in Fall of 1993, and they were friends for 32 years. He liked to travel and drove for Matt’s Express for many years but was a jack-of-all-trades. Joe attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Madison. He enjoyed being outside, camping, listening to music, watching old western and Sci-fi movies, and had a passion for cooking. Joe loved Lake Michigan and will always be remembered as a free spirit. More than anything, he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Joe was so easy to talk to and could make friends with anybody. He will be greatly missed.

Joe is survived by his partner, Bonnie; children, Benjamin (Amanda Howen), Jeffrey (Tara), Terrence, and Emily (Jeremy) Currier; grandchildren, Mera (Andrew Rothfelder), Adalynn, Elliette, Aurora, and Griffin; siblings, Cindy Perry, Darlene Phifer, and Yvonne; father; Eugene; mother, Marian Scott; and Sheila La Duke, the mother of Ben, Jeff, Bradley, and Terry. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Joe is preceded in death by his infant son, Bradley.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Truax-Longmire VFW Post 8483, 5737 County Hwy CV, Madison, from 1:00PM until 5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may go to St. Paul Lutheran Church and VFW Post 8483.
