Obituary

Cottage Grove - Carl D. Tenjum, age 61, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026. Carl was the son of Palmer Tenjum and JoAnne (Ramsey) Tenjum Kinzler. Carl grew up in the DeForest area, graduating from DeForest High School in 1983.

Carl is survived by his wife, Shary (Handzel) Tenjum of Cottage Grove, WI; sisters, Margaret "Molly" (Stephen) Tolliver of Olney, IL, Debra (Randall) Grams of Dalton, WI and Sheryl (Curtis) Miller of Waseca, MN; 4 nieces; 2 nephews; son, Robert "Robbie" Tenjum of IL; Shary's children, Amanda Sheldon of Monona, WI, Caitlan Sheldon of Madison, WI, Jordan Wendt of Stoughton, WI; granddaughter, Harlee Sheldon Zarn of Monona, WI; father-in-law, Hank Handzel of Cottage Grove, WI; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Megan (Adam) Senatori and their son, Samuel of Madison, WI, Laura Handzel of California, and Nathan Handzel and his fiancée, Elizabeth Jacobson of Cottage Grove, WI; 3 great nieces; 3 great nephews; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; mother-in-law, Charlotte Handzel; nephews, Tyler Tolliver and Lee Grams; and aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Norway Grove Memorial Lutheran Church, 820 River Rd, DeForest, with Pastor Carol Baumgartner presiding. A Visitation will take place at the church from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Norway Grove Cemetery.

A special thanks to Bristol Hospice and Middleton Village and Nursing & Rehab for all the care they provided to Carl.

I grew up with Carl from 2nd grade, 1972. Carl was always such a good guy, smile on his face and never a bad word to say about anybody. I am glad I can say you were a friend, you will be missed.
