Obituary

Ronald Einerson was born Sept. 4, 1932 in Argyle, WI to Herbert and Rose (Stephenson) Einerson and passed away on June 22, 2026 at the age of 93. He graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1950 where he played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from UW Platteville in 1956 where he played basketball. There Ron met the love of his life, Delores Hoesly, and they married in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, part of that time as a Morse code operator in Korea. He received his Masters Degree from UW Madison in 1960.

Ron taught History and coached basketball in Cashton, Plymouth and Neenah. His Neenah teams won the state championships in 1975 and 1978. He was named Wisconsin coach of the year in 1975 and the Neenah fieldhouse was named in his honor in 2003. Ron was selected as a charter member of the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1979, as a member of the UW-Platteville Hall of Fame in 1989, and as a charter member of the Neenah School District Hall of Fame in 2015.

Ron loved golf and the camaraderie of his friends, Neenah and Wisconsin Badger basketball and football games, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed time in Door County and Florida. He journeyed domestically and internationally, not because he particularly enjoyed traveling, but because he loved his wife who loved to travel.

His daughters remember him as a loving father with a great sense of humor who lived his life with personal integrity and who loved his girls equally. They looked up to him as an accomplished speaker and inspirational leader. Ron valued and exemplified a strong work ethic, preparation, perseverance, teamwork, discipline, class, and character.

Ron is survived by his daughters Andree (Craig) Fredrick of Madison, Laura (Mike) Radke, Madison and Leslie (Todd) Eberhardt, Orono, MN, his grandchildren Jason and Jordan (Natalie) Fredrick, Megan (Derek Polk) and Jenna Radke, and Nicholas, Taylor and Tori Eberhardt, and great-grandchildren Scottie Fredrick and Bennett Polk. Also surviving are his brothers, Mal and Gary, sister-in-law Jan Hoesly, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores, parents, sisters-in-law Carol Gruber, Vi Einerson and Sandi Einerson and his brothers-in-law, Dwight Hoesly and Don Gruber.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Bridgewood Resort Hotel, 1000 Cameron Way, Neenah, WI, from NOON until 3:00PM.

I had the privilege of playing on two of Coach Einerson's teams (1971 and 1972) and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it (well, maybe not the running lines part). Coach Einerson was more than just a great basketball coach. As others have noted, he taught us life skills that served us off the court as well on it. The importance of hard work, discipline, teamwork, humility, and how to win or lose with grace. I will be forever grateful and fortunate for having Coach Einerson in my life.

There are people in your life who - unknowingly at the time - have an outsized impact on your self-respect, discipline, regard for others, and desire to be your best. Ron Einerson was definitely one of those people. His downstream impact on the young people of Neenah will always be remembered.

Apart from my father, no one had a greater impact on me in my formative years than Coach. I was a team manager on the '69 and '70 teams (thanks to John Arpin for his fine remembrance here) and have often since remembered the lessons of honesty, integrity, hard work and determination that Coach imparted. He had the uncanny ability to say or do the right thing in any moment -- he could be tough or caring, demanding or compassionate, and that great sense of humor would come forward at just the right time. Speaking for my brother Bill (passed away) and myself it was an honor to be even a small part of coach Einerson’s legacy. Playing for him from 70-72 was a highlight and last memory of our high school years. My father enjoyed going to badger games later in life. It is said that a life isn’t measure by what you have but by the number of lives you have touched. Coach certainly touched many lives. Thanks for the memories. Russ Schultz.

As one of three brothers that played for Coach Einerson during the 1970’s, I can attest to the impact he had on all of our lives that went far beyond the basketball court. He taught all of his players how to be competitive yet respectful young men and how to win and lose with humility and grace. His reach as an educator, a coach, a husband and a father is impossible to overstate. All of those whose lives he touched are much better people because of it.

Mr Einerson (at 84 I still can’t call him Ron!) was one of my favorite teachers at PHS. We all had a great deal of respect for him!
