Obituary

Lorraine A. (Menning) Long, age 93, passed away June 27, 2026. She was born November 28, 1932 to Edward and Elsie (Stefan) Menning.

Lorraine married Donald M. Long in 1956 and they remained married until Don’s death in 2019. Lorraine enjoyed attending church service on Sunday mornings and bible class Wednesday mornings. Her family would like to thank Pastor David Dukovan for his weekly visits to Lorraine and the comfort he provided to both her and her family during her final days. Lorraine also enjoyed gardening and reading but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Lorraine and Don had 3 children; Melanie Long, Martin Long and Jennifer (David) Wise; grandchildren, Creighton (Laura) Long, Mercedes Long, Jamie (Tim) Hernandez and Chrissy (Jake) Schmid; great-grandchildren, Ivy and Oleander Long, Adam and Eli Hernandez and Lily and Liam Schmid. She is further survived by her siblings; Kathy, Florence and John and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter-in-law, Martha Long; granddaughters, Kassia and Alexis Long; parents and siblings, Carl, Natalie, Dorothy, Elsie and Paul.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, WI. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison.

Lorraine was my sponsor when I was baptized at 2 weeks old. She prayed for me (and later also for my family) faithfully for over 64 years. I have been blessed not only by her prayers, but also by her faith, wisdom, insights, and kindness throughout my life, especially through our lengthy phone conversations over the years. I look forward to when we meet again in heaven.

I am Ross Metzger of Trinity Pines who was a neighbor of Lorraine. One day Lorraine asked me do you know or are related to the Metzgers in Milwaukee Wisconsin who had a corner grocery store. It turned out that my grandfather and grandmother owned that corner grocery store probably back in the 1940s. My mom and dad were married at the same Lutheran church where Lorraine and my grandparents attended. Talk about a small world to meet someone in Lake Mills who as a little girl knew my grandparents. Enjoy the glory that God promised you Lorraine, and sympathies to her family.

My Sharon, Lorraine's neice, really enjoyed staying connected with her aunt. Lorraine stayed in contact with me after Sharon’s passing. We both enjoyed all of the Menning stories.May Lorraine find peace and comfort in the arms of Jesus and her Heavenly Father. She and Sharon are catching up now aling with Mom Long! Michael Huffman
