Maria O. Thomas (née Machado), age 91, of Madison, Wisconsin, passed away on July 4, 2026.
Maria was born on June 7, 1935, in Mercedes, Uruguay, to Antonio Machado and Gabina Machado (née Branca). In 1961, she came to the United States after marrying and began a new chapter of her life in America. She and her husband, Lawrence Thomas, later settled in Madison, Wisconsin, where they made their home and raised their family.
Maria worked for Carmen's and Manchester's. While she valued her work, her greatest joy was caring for her family and raising her son, David. She took pride in her home and found happiness in the everyday moments spent with those she loved.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Thomas; her daughter, Susan; and her parents, Antonio Machado and Gabina Machado (née Branca).
She is survived by her loving son, David Thomas; her sisters, Julia and Gladys; her brothers, Juan, Nene, and Walter; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Maria's life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Maria will be remembered for her quiet strength, her devotion to her family, and the lasting impact she made on the lives of those who knew and loved her.
