Thomas Carey

Thomas Clifford Carey, age 86, of Waunakee, passed away at UW Hospital on Monday, August 10, 2026.  He was born on February 1, 1940, in Madison, the son of Raymond and Jeannette (Grosse) Carey.

Tom grew up in Madison and attended Edgewood High School. He married Jan Hansen and lived in Sun Prairie for several decades.  He spent many retirement winters in Panama City Beach, FL with his loving partner Patricia Meichert.

Tom enjoyed boating the Madison lakes, and he took several Mississippi River trips.  He also had fun visiting casinos in Wisconsin, Biloxi, and Las Vegas. 

Tom always had a freezer full of ice cream. If the local store was out of a flavor, you could find it in Tom’s freezer!

Tom was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Worker’s Local 18 Union.  

Tom is survived by his children Linda and Matt (Lisa); grandchildren Megan, Evan, Ryan, Nina; great grandchildren Elijah, Kaysee, JahQuinton; niece Sharon (Russ). He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barb; children Mike, Lori, Mark; great grandchild William; loving partner Patricia Meichert.
