William Hunstad

William "Bill" D. Hunstad, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Four Winds Manor in Verona, WI.   He was born on September 7, 1931, to Engvald "Ed" and Mable (Severson) Hunstad in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Bill married Corrine Buss on June 28, 1952, in Redfield SD.

Bill attended high school in Aberdeen, South Dakota, graduating in 1949. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably. After his military service, Bill became very active in the American Legion.  Bill served as Commander of the local Post 14 in Jamestown, North Dakota.

In 1969, Bill moved his family to Duluth, Minnesota, where he opened a shoe store. His business grew to two locations, which he owned and operated for more than 10 years. Bill’s kind, friendly personality and genuine interest in others helped him form many lasting friendships throughout his life.

In September 2010, Bill moved to Wisconsin to be closer to his family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Four Winds Manor and Agrace Hospice for their exceptional care.

Bill is survived by his children, Linda (Dwight) Eng of Verona, Susan (Kerry) Ryder of Gilbert, MN, James (Renee) Hunstad of Ocala, FL; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Corrine Hunstad; his parents, Ed and Mabel Hunstad; brothers, Carroll and Robert Hunstad, and Granddaughter Shelby Marie Ryder.
