Obituary

LeRoy Earl Vitek

March 6, 1934 – August 26, 2026

LeRoy Earl Vitek, age 92, of Highbridge, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026.

LeRoy was born on March 6, 1934, in Highbridge and graduated from Mellen High School. On October 22, 1955, he married Charlotte Kruzan, also of Highbridge. They were married for 70 years, building a lifetime of memories, raising a family, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and plenty of activity.

LeRoy and Charlotte raised their seven children in Highbridge, where their home was always a gathering place for family and friends. LeRoy worked on the railroad for 40 years, often on the road, but he always made sure he was there for the important moments.

Later, LeRoy’s work brought them to Superior, Wisconsin, where they spent many happy years building friendships, enjoying time with family, and making new memories. LeRoy was an avid golfer and fisherman, and he and Charlotte loved to travel—especially their trips to Hawaii.

After 25 years in Superior, LeRoy and Charlotte moved to Waunakee, Wisconsin, where they continued to enjoy life. They liked visiting local supper clubs and heading south during the winter months.

LeRoy was part of a very large family. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte; his parents, Joe and Millie Vitek; his siblings JoAnn Salek, Gary Vitek, Dennis Vitek, and Dawn Rikkola; and sisters‑in‑law Monica Vitek, Delores Vitek, and Donna Burns; and his grandson, Josh Vitek.

He is survived by his children LeRoy (Julie), Lori (Doug), Robin (Debbie), Richard (Pam), Troy (Lynn), Kurtis (Mert), and Kerry (Corey); 15 grandchildren; 18 great‑grandchildren; 4 great‑great‑grandchildren; and his siblings Don Vitek, Marlene (Dan) Salek, Duane (Sharon) Vitek, Martin Vitek, Ken (Vicki) Vitek, and Cherryl (Jon) Hohenstein; brothers‑in‑law Len Salek and John Rikkola; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him dearly.

LeRoy was the kind of man who believed in hard work and family. He spent his life providing for his wife and kids, making sure they were safe, supported, and loved. He was the kind of guy who didn’t talk much about what he did – he just did it. He was steady, generous, and always willing to lend a hand. The home he and Charlotte built was a place where everyone felt welcome, and together they created a four‑generation family that continues to grow. His family will carry his memory with them forever.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate LeRoy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 117 S. West St., Mellen, WI. Visitation will take place from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, followed immediately by the funeral service. After the service, a burial will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Highbridge where LeRoy will be laid to rest with Charlotte.  A luncheon will follow back at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational United Church of Christ. The Vitek family would like to thank everyone for their love and support. We will forever hold LeRoy in our hearts.
