Betty Selmer

Betty Rose Marie (Pape) Selmer, age 91, passed away on September 14, 2026, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on June 15, 1935, to Fredrick and Marquerite (Brick) Pape in Madison, WI. Betty married Jerome Selmer on June 25, 1955, at First Baptist Church in Madison, WI.

Betty graduated from East High School and went on to earn an associate degree in business from Madison Area Technical College. She spent much of her working life at East Towne Mall, where she worked from the early 1970s until 2011. During those years, she worked at Prange, Younkers, and The Boston Store.

Outside of work, Betty enjoyed bowling and spending time watching the birds from her window. She had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Betty especially enjoyed visiting family members who had rescued huskies. Later in life, she found joy in watching the dogs as they walked past her home.

Above all, Betty treasured her family. She loved her children dearly, and they knew they could always confide in her. Betty looked forward to family holidays, when everyone could gather together and make memories. She also enjoyed crafting with her family, sharing not only her creativity but also the simple pleasure of spending time together.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers that helped take care of Betty for the past couple of years. 

Betty is survived by her children, Susan (Randy) Brandes, Linda Selmer; grandchild, Amanda (Robert) Rogers and 1 great grandchild, Abigail Rogers.

 She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepdaughter, Sharon Zabel; and infant sister, Shirley Ann Pape.
