Dr. John Pickle Jr.

Dr. John H. (Buddy) Pickle Jr., age 86, passed away on September 18, 2026, at Columbia County Healthcare Center in Wyocena, Wisconsin. He was born on October 12, 1939, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas to parents John and Katherine (Brown) Pickle.

Buddy was USAF veteran, a Doctorate in Entomology or as he joked “Doctor of Bugs” from Oklahoma State University putting that to use as a Research Agronomist, and an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He raised and trained hunting retrievers. For a time, he was the foremost authority on field mice and rats in the United States. He was a published author and took the letters of his father had from Dr. George Washington Carver in the 1930s, researched and found his father’s responses at Tuskegee University. The book, "One of His Boys: The Letters of Johnnie Pickle and His Mentor, George Washington Carver" was published in 2021. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing, and in his later years, he especially enjoyed dancing, singing, and happy hour with family and friends.

John is survived by his wife Beverly Baerwolf-Pickle; children Connie (Tim) Boender, Reed (Monika) Baerwolf, Jodi Cincotta, John “Trey” (Jennifer) Pickle, and Victoria “Tori” (Derek) Berndt; 10 grandchildren; siblings Pat Wolf, Stewart Pickle, Ken Pickle, Kathy Turner, Sharon Semtner, and Jim Pickle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother David (Donna) Pickle, and son-in-law Mark Cincotta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, who will determine their use at a later date.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 303 Park St, Arlington. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Arlington.
