Obituary

Madison- Kurt Zuege, age 77, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1948 in Chicago, IL. Kurt was the second son of Bud and Betty Zuege. He married his wife, Gail Haugaard, on April 29, 1979.

Kurt was very smart. He graduated from East High School, earning the Brandenburg Four-Year University Scholarship award on the basis of excellent scholarship, leadership, and service to the school. Kurt became involved in car mechanics, a career that lasted 30 years, and worked with Olson Vacuum. He was also a very competitive bowler. He bowled for a number of years in many local, state, and national tournaments. He and his wife, Gail, would always make a trip out of going to all of the national bowling tournaments. They were avid Friday night fish fry goers to all different places. Kurt enjoyed gambling a little and casino trips out west. He was an avid grill master and a handyman- He could fix pretty much anything.

Kurt is survived by his nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail; parents; and brothers, Jon and Gary Zuege.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in the chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held in the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to give special thanks to Madison Rehab, Home Health, and UW Hospital.

Kurt was a bear with a gentle side... a bowler for many years, liked to go fishing in Canada and to go on road trips with Gail, loved to smoke food and watch Westerns, and he always let you know that you were #1!
