Obituary

Madison - Daniel “Dan” J. O’Neill, age 77, passed away on October 3, 2026, at the William S Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin after a long battle with cancer. He was born on June 15, 1949, in Madison, to William and Bernetta (Martell) O’Neill.

Dan graduated from Madison East High School in 1967 and immediately went on to five years in the United States Navy. Dan married the love of his life, Barbara (Coleman) O’Neill, on May 1, 1970 in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Together they would raise two children. He was a devoted husband to Barbara and father to Patrick and Kelly. He loved spending time with his family. Dan enjoyed many hobbies, however he especially loved playing golf and flying his radio controlled airplanes.

Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara O’Neill; children, Patrick O’Neill and Kelly (Greg) Richie; grandchildren, Laurice (Marquies) Williams and Rocco Richie; great grandchildren, Annalise and Marquies Jr.; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bernetta O’Neill; and brothers, Douglas and Bill O’Neill.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 8, 2026 in the chapel at Highland Memory Gardens in Madison. Pastor Bob Lee is presiding. A visitation will take place from 10:00am until the time of service.
