Barry Johnson

Barry Lee Johnson, age 69, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on July 23, 1957, to Charles and Pearl (Muzzy) Johnson in Marshall, Wisconsin.

Barry graduated from Marshall High School in 1975, where he enjoyed playing both basketball and football. His love of basketball continued throughout his life, and he instilled that in his two children coaching them as they grew up. His daughter continues his legacy of coaching by training basketball players.

Barry worked in construction for more than 37 years alongside his longtime friend, Don Cosgrove. He took great pride in his work and could fix almost anything.

A true outdoorsman, Barry loved fishing and hunting. He especially looked forward to his trips to Canada and hunting on the family hunting land with his son. He was also a devoted sports fan who proudly cheered on the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, and Wisconsin Badgers basketball team.

Above all, Barry cherished his family. He loved his grandchildren dearly and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. They were the last people to make him smile. The memories he made with his family, through sports and in the outdoors, will be lovingly remembered and cherished by all.

Barry is survived by his children, Danielle Johnson and Cody (Karissa) Johnson; grandchildren, Laney Johnson and Liam Johnson; significant other, Ellen Magli; siblings, Sharon Mather, Gary (Jean) Johnson, Brian (Julie) Johnson, and Linda (Steve) Fanta; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Pearl, and his brother, Donald (Donny) Johnson.
