Robert V. Prather III, age 71, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Bob was born on June 8, 1955, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, the son of Robert Prather Jr. and Mildred Maria Lawrence. He was a graduate of the Hun School of Princeton, New Jersey in 1983. He attended Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL and Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. He worked as a restaurant manager at Alexander’s Street Steakhouse in Springfield when he met Julie Kieser in 1993 after meeting at a conference in Chicago. They were married on September 27, 1997, in Peoria, Illinois and moved to Madison, WI in 2009.
Bob was a lifelong Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals fan as well as a supporter of the Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. In recent years, Bob enjoyed working at Costco in Verona, WI. He was recognized as a top contributor to the Annual Children’s Miracle Network fundraising campaigns which helped impact the lives of many.
Bob is survived by his wife, Julie Prather; siblings Linda Prather (Jeff Johnson) of Vienna, VA, Bill (Debbie) Prather, Jim Prather, and Susan (Brinton) Wilkey, all of Springfield, IL along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Prather; a twin brother; and his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Alice Kieser.
A private family burial service will take place on Wednesday, October 28 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
