In Loving Memory of David James Novy

A Life Filled with Laughter, Music, food and Love

September 27, 1967 - October 23, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, David James Novy, who passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026. He was born on September 27, 1967, in Madison, WI, to James and Mary (Otis) Novy.

David was truly one of a kind. Known for his happy-go-lucky personality, contagious laughter, quick wit, and sarcastic sense of humor. He had a special way of making those around him smile. He lived life on his own terms, appreciating the simple pleasures and the people who made his life meaningful.

David graduated from Madison East High School in 1986. He was a dedicated and hardworking man, David spent over 30+ years at Webcrafters printing company, building lasting friendships throughout his career. For over 15 years, he also shared his passion for food and took his talents cooking fish for the VFW on Cottage Grove Road, where he enjoyed serving others and being part of the community while forming bonds with old and new friends.

One of David's greatest passions was music, particularly classic rock and vinyl records. His remarkable knowledge of albums, artists, and rock-and-roll history was unmatched. He loved traveling throughout Dane and neighboring counties, bowling alleys and fairs to listen to local bands, enjoying live performances and the friendships that came with them.  David even bought a drum set and taught himself how to play while listening to his favorite hits.

David was a true foodie at heart, always appreciating a great meal, especially at a favorite restaurant, like the Pine Cone for breakfast or Kavanagh’s Esquire Club for Friday fish fry when he wasn’t cooking at the VFW. Whether enjoying music, sharing a meal, or spending time with family and friends, he knew how to make the most of life's everyday moments.

Beneath his playful sarcasm was a generous heart and a deep love for those closest to him. David's greatest gift was his ability to bring joy to others simply by being himself.

David was preceded in death by his loving parents, James and Mary; his paternal grandparents, Albin Novy and Martha (Kratche) Novy; his maternal grandparents, George Otis and Dorothy (King) Otis; very special aunts, Arlene Werner and Sharon Winburn; and uncles George “Buddy” Otis, Paul O’Neal Otis, and Wayne Novy.

He is survived by his sister, Denise Novy Geiger; brothers, Chad Novy and Brian Novy; niece, Kylie Geiger; and nephew, Lexan Geiger; along with extended family and many dear friends.

A Time of Remembrance will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N Sherman Ave, Madison, WI. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home until the time of the service.

Although David's passing leaves an emptiness in our hearts, his memory will live on through the stories we share, the songs that remind us of him, and the laughter he brought into our lives.

David taught us, in his own special way, that a life well lived isn't measured by what we have, but by the happiness we share, the friendships we build, and the love we leave behind.

Rest in peace, Big Brother David.

Keep the music playing, the laughter going, and know that you will forever be in our hearts.

Forever Loved. Forever Missed. Never Forgotten.
