Obituary

James “Jim”, “JR” Richard Sutton passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on April 1, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison at the age of 66. He was born on January 24, 1959, in Madison, WI to Gerald “Leroy” Sutton and Mary Sutton (Karls). He graduated from Madison East High School in 1977. Jim raised his two daughters in DeForest, WI in partnership with their mother. He was very proud of his career working for the WI Dept of Corrections for 30 years before enjoying his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his dog, Wrigley. He also enjoyed camping and going to Packers Games with his daughters. In addition to being a lifelong Packer's fan, JR's passions included classic rock music and marine life. Scuba diving in Hawaii was one of his greatest memories. Jim's quick wit and sarcasm will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His jokes were always followed by a smile or smirk framed with his memorable dimples. He is survived by his partner of 21 years, Lisa Larson; Daughters Alanna (Jake Gerrits) Sutton and Britni (Jake) Sass, and their mother, Deb Davis (McCredie); Grandson Bennett Sass; Bonus Grandchildren Eli, MJ and Averie. Siblings Jean Sutton, Michael Sutton, Jeffrey Sutton and Jill (Todd) Patton. He is preceded in death by his parents, “Leroy” and Mary Sutton. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2 pm until 5 pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Willows Tavern, 5485 Willow Rd, Waunakee, WI 53597. Please join us in remembering Jim and honoring all the beautiful memories that will keep him in our hearts forever. "We've gotta hold on to what we've got. It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We got each other, and that's a lot for love" - Livin' on a Prayer, Bon Jovi
