Madison – Donald E. Gritzmacher, age 87, of Madison, died January 1, 2015 in Wausau. He was born December 6, 1927 in Wausau, one of three children of the late Bruno and Mary (Mueller) Gritzmacher.
Don served four years in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed working at the U.W. Extension Engineering Department for many, many years. It was there that he met his future wife, Pat Dooley. They were married January 22, 1966 and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2012. Don had a green thumb and a loved tending his beautiful flower gardens and traveling extensively.
Don is survived by his brother, Glenn (Arlene) Gritzmacher; his sister, Joyce Kalbes; a sister-in-law, Agnes Anderson and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 10 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Avenue with Father Roger Nilles presiding. Military honors will follow Mass and entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
