Sharon Hyslop

We are grateful to have learned many valuable lessons from Sherry during her 65 years. One of the most notable is that there are two things in life no one will ever be able to take away from you - your education and your life experiences, especially those gained from traveling.

Sherry was born on October 31, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Polish south side. It wasn't until several years later that she realized the costumes and candy weren't just to celebrate her birthday. What a disappointment!

She was close with her mother, Jane, who advised her as a young woman to do what she had done and marry the best man she could find. Sherry did just that in 1971 when she married Ron Hyslop. Sherry and Ron spent several years traveling for the military, but eventually settled in Madison and had three children.

Sherry was devoted to her children and determined to be a good role model for them. She made custom Halloween costumes that were unrivaled, supervised frequent pool parties in the backyard, was a doting room-mother at school, and took each of her children on a vacation of their choice when they were each pre-teens.

In addition to her family, Sherry loved many things; coffee, butter pecan ice cream, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, her rose garden, and redbud tree to name a few. If you were lucky enough to receive one of her expertly-made hand-knit wares, you already know how lucky you are! She adored the children she nurtured at Lakeview Elementary School for many years, and treated them as if they were her own. Other fond memories include annual trips to the family condo in the mountains of Utah, traveling to Germany and Switzerland with friends, after work happy hours with colleagues, watching HGTV, neighborhood block parties, spring break trips to Tucson, Seattle, and Orlando, and most recently, spoiling her grandchildren rotten!

Sherry expressed much gratitude for the life she had lived, which ended on January 24, 2015. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother in addition to one of the most kind and generous people we have ever known.

Sherry is survived by her husband, Ron; children and grandchildren: Rachel of Madison; Dan of Rhode Island (wife Elizabeth, children George and Angela); and Megan of Indianapolis; sister Judy Stolper (husband Gene Haug); mother Jane Romanowski; and more friends and family too numerous to list. Sherry is preceded in death by her two nephews, Michael and Andrew Stolper, and her father Harry Romanowski.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
