Roy Kochanowski

MADISON – Roy E. Kochanowski, age 86, passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2015. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Aug. 9, 1928, the son of Joseph and Hazel (Waldron) Kochanowski. He grew up in Cadillac, Mich., and in 1950, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for two years before joining the Army National Guard for four years.

In 1951, he married Darlene Ready. Roy worked for Wisconsin Bell for 37 years and retired in 1985. Being the hard worker that he was, Roy went to back to work at Walmart, where he worked part-time for 11 years. In his younger years, Roy and Darlene enjoyed camping with their family. He will be remembered for his hard work and love of his family.

Roy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darlene; his children, Barbara (Ray) Wagner, Diane (Robert) Krantz, and Ron (Donna) Kochanowski; his grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) Tiedeman, Shelley (Nic) Carpenter, Andrew Kochanowski, Amanda (Kyle) Brueckner, and Laura Kochanowski; his eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Kochanowski.

He was preceded in death by his son, Roy Lee “Butch”, on April 10, 1976; and his eight siblings.

The family would like to extend a big, huge, thank you to the staff at Oregon Manor for the exceptional care of Roy.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 322 E. Washington Ave., Madison, with the Rev. Ken Smith presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday.
