Richard McCormick

Madison/Markesan - Richard S. "Dick" McCormick, age 77, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at UW Hospital with the love of his family surrounding him. Born on Christmas Day, 1937 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI, son of Robert and Leone (Martin) McCormick. He was an 18 year cancer survivor.

Dick graduated from Madison East High School the summer of 1956. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1957 thru 1959 and was stationed at 2nd Army HQ near Washington DC. Assigned to U.S. Army 27th Surgical Field Hospital, he also served TDY at Fort Ritchie Maryland near Camp David.

While in the service, he married his high school sweetheart Janice M. Harrington. They were blessed with four children.

Dick is survived by his wife of 57yrs., Jan McCormick; daughters Teri Turner (Kerry), Kimberly Goes (Jack); sons James (Sue) and John; sisters Mary (George) Pliszka and Anne (Michael) Endres; brothers George (Lorraine) and Patrick (Patty) McCormick; sisters-in-law Mary and Nyla along with many nieces and nephews.

Dick and Jan were graced with four beautiful grandchildren, Jenni, Aja, Ian and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers John, Robert, William, Michael and Thomas and two sisters in-law, Lorraine and Patricia.

Dick was employed at United Parcel Service as a package car driver in the Madison Operations center in April 1965. Promoted to Sales and Service in1966 he covered the S/W portion of Wisconsin. He retired in1992 after nearly twenty-eight years of dedicated service assignments in the lower 48 state expansion of UPS.

The family would like to thank Dr. Margaret Schwarze and the staff at the UW West Clinic, Dr. Gerald Pankratz at the East Clinic and the nursing staff on the 6th floor at UW Hospital.

Richard will be buried in Markesan, WI near his favorite fishing spot on Little Green Lake. He will always be known as “Mr. Service” by his partners at United Parcel Service.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N Sherman Ave, Madison, with Fr. Michael Radowicz officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A second memorial will be held in Markesan at the Community Funeral Home on May 9th at noon.

In Lieu of flowers, donations to PBS, the ASPCA, American Kidney Fund or the American Heart Association in Dick’s name would be appreciated.
