Mary Smith

DeForest - Mary Ellen Smith, age 92, passed on peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family on March 10, 2015. She was a caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. She was born on February 24, 1923, in Dalton, WI and was the daughter of Ernest and Winnie (Morgan) Hunter.

Mary graduated from Portage High School in 1941 and married Sivert Smith December 5, 1945 after he returned from WWII. They moved to Madison's east side where Mary worked for Oscar Meyer's for a number of years. In 1955 they moved to Windsor to raise their family. Mary is survived by her children Debbie Mancuso of Hillsboro; Randy (Debbie) Smith of DeKalb, IL; Danita (Bill) Klahn of Arlington and Denise Henderson of Carbondale, CO; and 6 grandchildren, Dylan Henderson, Sabrina Klahn, Kristin Klahn, Cassidy Smith, Tucker Smith and Hunter Smith; brother Jerry Hunter of Dalton and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Mary was a very hard working and strong willed women, but more important she was a loving person, whether it was toward another person or any animal. She was accompanied through life by numerous cats and dogs and loved to tend her flowers and watch the birds in her yard. Until her later years she never missed a Packer, Brewer or Wisconsin game if it was on TV.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother's Buster, Ernest, Wayne, Jim, and Jack; sister's Lola, Winifred and Virginia; and loving daughter Deena Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest on Saturday, March 14, 2015, with Rev. Lisa Nelson presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will follow the service at Windsor cemetery.
