Obituary
ANCASTER - John L. Matt, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells.
John was born on October 18, 1926 in Cassville, WI to Joseph and Beulah Matt. He was raised on the family farm near Cassville and later joined the Navy and served during WWII. John worked in construction until he was severely injured during the building of Sinsinawa Mound Center in Hazel Green, WI. He was a long time member of the St. Clement's Catholic Church in Lancaster. John enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, fishing with his grandson Dan and traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, New Orleans, Cape Cod, Yellow Stone National Park, Europe, and the Bahamas.
John is survived by his daughter Wendy (Jim) Steele; grandsons, Daniel J. and Christopher J. Steele; brother Paul (Dixie) Matt. Further survived many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Lois Matt and sister, Margaret (Harvey) Kinkade of Beloit.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona, on Friday, March 27, 2015, with Father William Vernon presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service at the funeral home on Friday.
