Obituary
George A. "Art" Swan, age 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Oak Park Place in Madison. Art was born in Mott, ND on January 17, 1921, to George and Mary Jane (Chapman) Swan. He later settled in the Endeavor area for the rest of his life. After serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he farmed for several years, worked as a mechanic for a few years and spent the rest of his employed life with the Marquette County Highway Department, which he retired from in 1984.
Art was a very active member of the Trinity UCC in Endeavor for many years. He belonged to several Masonic Organizations including: Masons - Ft. Winnebago Lodge #33, Eastern Star - Star of Behtlehem #100 of Portage and Zor Shrine - Madison, where he drove for the Midgets in parades all over the state to raise money for the Shrine Children's Hospital.
Art is survived by his daughter, Susan (Bill) Thomas of Madison; grandson, Tim Thomas of Elk River, MN; granddaughter, Paula Thomas Kufahl of Madison; great-granddaughter, Kelsie Kufahl of Madison; brother, Robert Swan of Portage; sister-in-law, Edith Fredericks of Baraboo and a Very Special Friend, Scharron Lake of North Port, FL. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews and by his step-family, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Al and Harry, 1st wife, Elsie Fredericks Swan (1983), 2nd wife, Helen Alexander Swan (2001) and many other family and friends.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Art's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the Endeavor Trinity UCC. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Julie Wilson will preside. Burial will be private.
