MADISON- John C. "Jack" Schwarz, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 24, 1927, the son of Anthony and Susan (Berendes) Schwarz. A lifelong resident of Madison, Jack attended Holy Redeemer Grade School and graduated from Central High School. He served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tillman during World War II. He married Evelyn Ryan at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Madison. Jack worked as a Steamfitter at the University of Wisconsin and was a member of the ELKS Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; six children, Robert (Glenn), Sue, William, Therese, Thomas (M.J.), and Anthony; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn (Jerome) Cefalu.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob; brothers, Joseph and James; and sisters, Irene, Joyce, and Antoinette.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Meriter Hospital for their exceptional care of Jack.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. A reception will follow at the ELKS Lodge, 711 Jenifer Street, Madison.
