Obituary
WESTPORT- Donald Vernon Harbort, age 87, passed away on June 10, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare. Don was born to Chris and Edna (Simonson) Harbort in Madison on January 12, 1928. They resided on Sherman Avenue near the Tenney Locks for his entire childhood. He was married to Bernadine Klos for over 50 years. They resided in Westport near the beginning of the 6 Mile Creek. They were owners of the Spanish Village and the Harbort's Sportsman Bar. Don also owned and operated Harbort Bros. Construction with his brother, Guy.
He loved hunting, euchre, farming, fishing and dancing. He wrote many political editorials under the pen name "Westport River Rat."
Don is survived by his five children, Gary (Bette Ann) of Waunakee, Debbie (Don Hausknecht) of Marina Del Rey, CA, Dale (Dan Patterson) of Lexington, Kentucky, Gayle Olson of Token Creek, Vicki (Gil) Niesen of Madison; his brother, Guy (Bev); 11 grandchildren, Don, Rachael, Jason, Neil, Justin, Brian, Eric, Katelyn, Lance, Dustin and Lisa; 11 great-grandchildren, Paige, Kailey, Ashley, Barrett, Campbell, Emerson, Ivy, Katelin, Layla, Ava and Mazzy; Bernadine's large family in La Crosse; his special friend, Beverly Schaefer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine in 2000; a sister, Joan; and son-in-law; Louis Olson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015, at LAKEVIEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Rd., with Pastor Ron Mach presiding. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., and also from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at the church on Monday.
