Jeffery W. "Jeff" Buttchen, age 61, passed away at home, on June 1, 2015, after a courageous 2 A½ year battle with brain cancer. Jeff was born in Madison, WI, on May 21, 1954, the fourth of ten children of Leon and Marie (Haag) Buttchen. He was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Church in Cross Plains. Jeff grew up in Black Earth and attended Wisconsin Heights High School. In 1972, he and his family moved to Verona, where he met his wife, Heidi Kaeser, while attending Verona High School. Jeff and Heidi were united in marriage on June 24, 1978, at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus.
Jeff was employed at Kast Rite Silos, Firestone and Comstock Tire. In his youth he enjoyed working on cars, especially his '69 Firebird and '76 Trans Am. He enjoyed camping with friends and family on "the Island" on the Wisconsin River, where he taught his younger siblings and nieces and nephews to water ski. He also enjoyed Muskie fishing on the Chippewa Flowage with Mike and friends of Indian Trails Resort, fishing with Cory and Brian on the Madison lakes, golfing with Keith and Dwight, and skiing at Devil's Head with Bob.
Most importantly, he cherished the time spent with his wife, Heidi, and his three daughters, Alicia, Nicole and Shannon, on their annual camping trips to Callahan Lake Resort, and ski trips with his daughters to Indian Head Resort. Jeff loved watching the girls in all of their sporting events, as well as coaching basketball and softball.
He is survived by his wife, Heidi; his daughters, Alicia (Jeff Anderson) Buttchen, Nicole (Scott) Ziegler and Shannon (Anthony Conlin) Buttchen; his beautiful granddaughters, Madison and Nora Ziegler; and "the little guy," Marley. He is also survived by his parents; his siblings and in-laws, Roger (Terri) Buttchen, Pattie (John) Kaeser, Steve (Sue) Buttchen, Mark Buttchen, Julie Buttchen, Brian (Chelle) Buttchen, Brenda (Mark) Larson, Scott Buttchen, Angie (Dave) Chappell, Rosemarie (Paul) Wieland, and Walter (Wendy) Kaeser; his aunt and uncle, Leona and Wayne Syvrud; and also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by Heidi's parents, Rose and Fritz Kaeser; his grandparents, Herman and Catherine Buttchen, Lawrence and Genevieve Haag, Maude Haag; and his aunts and uncles, Armella and Herman Miller, Veronica and Bill Miller, Elmer and Margaret Buttchen, Alvin and Dorothy Haag and LeRoy and Esther Haag.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ, 502 Mark Drive, Verona, with Rev. Dr. Mark Yurs officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Ryan Funeral Home, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona.
