Michael Kirst

Madison-Michael J. Kirst, age 29, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. He was born November 27, 1985, the son of Dean and Kris (Deubler) Kirst. Michael graduated from Sun Prairie High School in 2004. He was active in music and marched with the Sound of Sun Prairie for 4 years. He also got the chance to perform on stage with jazz musician Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center in New York City. He attended UW Milwaukee and later graduated from the Art Institute of Charleston South Carolina in Culinary Arts. After graduation, Michael worked as a chef for Spirit Line Cruises in Charleston. After moving back to Madison, he worked as a chef at the Edgewater and later Brocach. Cooking was Michael's passion and he loved to make it artistic. He enjoyed collecting comic books, playing guitar and the keyboard. He also liked watching the NHL, the Brewers and playing video games with his friends.

Michael was a member of Lakeview Lutheran Church in Madison. He was baptized at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Merrill and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie. He went on numerous mission trips with Lakeview Lutheran. Michael also played trumpet in church.

Michael is survived by his parents, Dean and Kris Kirst; his sister, Elizabeth (Phil Goes) Kirst-Goes; grandparents, Martin and Phyllis Kirst and Ellie Deubler; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bob Deubler; and his aunt, Amy Deubler Thomm.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at LAKEVIEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Rd, Madison, with Pastor Ron Mach presiding. A visitation will be held at the church from 3:30 PM until the time of service.

We would encourage memorials to the Lakeview Lutheran Kitchen Fund because Michael would want everyone to have a good kitchen with good knives.
