Obituary
DeForest-James Paul “Jim” Eichstadt died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 10, 2015 near DeForest, Wisconsin at the age of 61.
Jim is survived by his father, Paul (Kathryn) Eichstadt of Wolsey, South Dakota; wife, Maureen of DeForest; children, Natalie (William) Aldrich of Wellington, Colorado, and Erik (Nicolette) Eichstadt of DeForest; brother, Kent Eichstadt (Dr. Nancy McDermott) of Highlands Ranch, CO. He is also survived by in-laws Janice and John Fathke, Jay and Joyce Borah, and many other loving family members throughout South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, California and throughout the United States. He is preceded in death by his mother, Vanieda Eichstadt, and parents-in-law Carmon and Olga Borah.
Born on October 4, 1953 in Tachikawa, Japan to Paul and Vanieda (Schirmer) Eichstadt, Jim graduated from South Dakota State University in 1976 with a degree in political science minoring in art history. Jim built a career as a dairy consultant, was General Manager for Family Dairies USA and the Farmers' Union Milk Marketing Cooperative, was the Aegis Group Senior Manager and columnist and editor for the Milkweed publication, and worked for related organizations in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. He also served as a delegate for the World Trade Organization, attending conferences in Seattle, Singapore and Geneva. Jim and Maureen Borah wed in Golden Valley, Minnesota on April 8, 1978, and in 1980 and 1986, welcomed their two children into the world.
A devoted bicyclist and avid baseball fan, Jim enjoyed eclectic music to include jazz and classical genres. He also had an interest in fine arts, was well read, enjoyed world travel, and frequently returned to the farm in South Dakota to help his father and spend valuable time with family.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S Main Street, DeForest. Pastors Sue Beadle and Richard Collier will officiate. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, on Wednesday, July 15. Another visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.
