Robert D. "Bob" Thompson, age 78, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born July 1, 1937 in Janesville, the son of John J. and Gertrude (Fisher) Thompson.
Bob has always been a very gentle man. Words to describe him include kind, thoughtful, caring and giving. He always remembered his family on special occasions and holidays with flowers and beautiful cards. He enjoyed dancing to big band music, golf, and photography and liked going to movies and on road trips. He loved anything to do with airplanes and loved his pets. He was a Vietnam Veteran and retired from the U.S. Air Force. He traveled extensively with the military, including to Turkey, Germany and Alaska.
Bob is survived by his life partner, Tina Standish of Windsor; a daughter, Lynn (Nigel) Cook of Waunakee; grandchildren, Ranee and Allan Thompson and Jack Cook; Tina's children, Jeff (Teri) Standish, Julie (Jim) Block, Jason (Christina) Standish; Tina's grandchildren, Justin, Jacob and Joshua Block; two great-grandchildren, with one on the way soon; and a brother, Richard (Helen) Thompson in Beverly, MA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Vi Thompson; a son, Jerry Thompson; two brothers, Norm and Phil Thompson and a sister, Betty Volden.
The family wishes to thank their family and friends for their concern and support these past years, Alzheimer's Alliance of Wisconsin, and Agrace HospiceCare.
A Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, DeForest, with Rev. Sue Beadle officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Alliance of Wisconsin or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. in memory of Bob.
