Obituary
MADISON- John James "Jim" Doll, age 89, was a sincere, wise man with gracious wit and an enduring sense of humor. On Sunday, September 13, 2015, Jim passed away at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on June 13, 1926, in Prairie du Sac, WI, to Walter and Laura (Meyer) Doll. He graduated from Prairie du Sac High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was engaged in the battle of Okinawa. After the surrender of Japan, he served a year in China.
Following the military, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his Bachelor of Science in 1950 and Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1953. He worked in various positions in the insurance industry until he was employed by the State of Wisconsin as an Administrative Law Judge. He retired in 1994.
Jim married Illene Graber of Mineral Point in 1948, and the two were married for 67 years. They lived in Whitefish Bay for 20 years before moving to Madison in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Illene; three daughters, Nancy wife of Michael Bernhard, Connie and Mary Ann, all of whom live in Madison; and his grandchildren, AJ Blum (Los Angeles, CA), Laura Blum (San Francisco, CA), Michael Blum (Los Angeles, CA), Anna Bernhard (Fort Collins, CO) and Andrew "Buddy" Bernhard (Washington, D.C.). He loved them all dearly. Ask any one of them, and they'll tell you they were certainly his favorite.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas W.; and sister, Mary Ann.
A private ceremony is being held by the family. Entombment will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
