David Roy Jones, age 90, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. He was born on August 24, 1925 in Denver, CO, the son of Jesse and Florence (Wishard) Jones. David graduated from Wheaton College in 1948 and from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1951. David was united in marriage to Marian R. Welch in August of 1949. Together they served in Honduras, Central America for 14 years as missionaries with the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society (CBHMS). While serving with CBHMS, David played a key role in starting up and managing the first Christian radio station in Honduras, HRVC. After returning to the United States, he served with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship until his retirement in 1997. David and Marion led 16 summer student mission programs to countries all over the world.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marian, his four children, Sheryl, Brynley (Carla), Bruce (Becky), and Brad (Dawn) Jones; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and brother, Jonathan Llewellyn Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Samuel Jones and grandson, Jesse Jones.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 3:00 at the Faith Community Bible Church in Madison. Visitation hours: 2:30-3:00, 4:30-5:30.
Memorial gifts may be made to International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, the American Bible Society or the Faith Community Bible Church mission program.
