Robert E. Sumnicht, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born on September 12, 1925 in Poynette, WI, the son of Frank and Grace (Cornwell) Sumnicht. Bob proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, during WWII, attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. After returning from the service, he met Eileen Stegerwald and they were married on February 7, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sun Prairie. He ran his own building business in Verona until his retirement in 1995.
Bob was a charter member of the New Glarus Businessmen's Golf League and enjoyed playing there until 2013, at the age of 88. He was also a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. He loved Badger sports and the Green Bay Packers. Bob enjoyed many seasons hunting with family and friends and spending winters in Gulf Shores with Eileen.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eileen; his children, Laura (Dave) Wipperfurth, Dan Sumnicht and Jim (Debra) Sumnicht; 7 grandchildren, Jamie, Amie, David, Lindsey, Sondre, Travis and Shea; and one great-grandson, Dominic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Ave., with Fr. Tafadzwa Kushamba officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at the church.
