Arthur Witz

Madison – Arthur A. Witz died peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2015, under the wonderful and loving care of Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Marian (Stude) Witz; daughter Bonnie (Jerry Getka) of Oswego, IL; his sons, Gary of Madison, WI, Craig (Joan) of Oregon, WI and Dean (Brenda) of Onalaska, WI and; ten grandchildren and many close friends. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Ksawery and Leokadia Witz, who emigrated from Poland in 1906, and his brothers Hank, Raymond and Robert and sister Irene (Manthey).

Arthur was born on July 6, 1923 and grew up on the family farm outside of Necedah, WI. After high school he served as a Sergeant in the Army at Fort Bragg, NC before being discharged in 1945. After the war, he worked in retail management with Montgomery Wards managing the operation of several stores around the Midwest, until moving to Madison in the early 1950s and starting his career in real estate. Arthur was a licensed real estate broker for over 50-years, first working with several local real estate firms before starting his own firm in 1972.

Arthur was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace church for many years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid Badger hockey fan and season ticket holder for many decades.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2pm at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S Owen Dr, Madison on Friday, October 9th with Fr. Bill Nolan presiding. Visitation will be held from 1pm until the time of service. Burial will take place after the service at Resurrection Cemetery.
