Obituary
MADISON- Josephine "Josie" (Urso) Bongiovani, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home on November 19, 2015. She was born on March 14, 1920, to Tony and Rose (Caruso) Urso. Josie grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood in Madison and developed her strong work ethic by working at her parent's restaurant, Tony's West Palm. She went on to be a beautician and owned her own beauty shop for many years.
She married Nick "Shorty" Bongiovani on January 9, 1954. She was a great seamstress and an amazing Sicilian cook, as evidenced by her published recipes in the Greenbush Cookbooks. She volunteered for many years in St. Bernard Catholic Church at the daycare. Josie will be remembered for the love she had for her family, her hard work and generous nature.
She is survived by her children, Jeanie Froland, Sharon (John) Hanushawicz, Nick (Vicki) Bongiovani, Sam Bongiovani, Anthony (Nancy) Bongiovani and Rose (David) Bongiovani; her grandchildren, Jamie (Justin) Adams, Alexia Bongiovani, Talia (Yegor) Golosnoy, Nick Hanushawicz, and Teresa (Chris) Coplan; her great-grandchildren, Greyson Adams, Elizabeth Golosnoy, Cole Coplan and Ella Coplan; and a very close friend and cousin, Mary (Gambino) Skaggs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick; a granddaughter, Sierra; her brothers, Joe, John and Frank Urso; a son-in-law, Peter Froland; a daughter-in-law, Mona (Fitzpatrick) Nye; and her beloved dog, Jimmy.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to her niece, Cheryl Urso, for all of her help and loving care of Josie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015, at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave., with Fr. Michael Radowicz presiding. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Monday.
