Michael Nelson

Waunakee – Michael A. Nelson, age 71, passed away peacefully on Nov. 19, 2015 at Sunshine Hospice in Olmito, Texas from heart complications. He was a resident of the Town of Westport and a Winter Texan in Harlingen, Texas.

Mike was born May 7, 1944 to Lem and Vivian (Long) Nelson in Ladysmith, WI. He attended Ladysmith schools and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served four years overseas. After the service, he worked many years as a cross country semi driver for C.W. Transport in Wisconsin Rapids. He also drove truck for Oconomowoc Canning Company and Inland Material Handling in Sun Prairie.

Upon retirement, he became an accomplished wood-worker making many special pieces for family and friends.

Mike married Shirley Stout in 1965 in Ladysmith. She preceded him in death in 1978. They had two children, Alan and Michele. In 1981, he married Judy Dommershausen, and they resided in Waunakee.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, his children, Alan of Cottage Grove, Shelly (Ron) Ziegler of Waunakee, Tara (Burt) Boldebuck of New Glarus, and Leisa (John) Breuch of Milladore, his eight grandchildren, Adam and Nathan Ziegler, Annaka and Hannah Boldebuck and Justin, Joshua, Jackie and Jenna Breuch. He is also survived by ten siblings, Elaine (Glenn) Galetka, Marilyn (Bob) Kudingo, Terry (Judy) Nelson, Tom Nelson, David Nelson, Larry (Judy) Nelson, Betty (Jim) Parker, Scott (Peggy) Nelson, Debbie (Ken) Sillman and Julie (Howard) Schreiber.

A Private Family Memorial Service and Burial with Military Honors will be held in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.
