Obituary

Madison-Margaret “Margo” Lindl, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15, 2016, at Sebring Assisted Living in Madison. Margo was born in Milwaukee on October 7, 1921 to Allen and Marjorie (Nowak) Martin. In 1947, she married Frank Lindl and enjoyed almost 60 years with him before his death in 2007. Together they had 6 children and 4 grandchildren. Margo was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Margo was an amazing woman in many respects. She was a graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and Mount Mary College and taught high school math for 5 years. She was a recipient of a Know Your Madisonian Award by the WSJ and the Madonna Medal for outstanding community service and professional excellence by the Mount Mary College Alumnae Association.

She was proud to be a charter member of St. Maria Goretti Parish and, over the years, served as a member of the parish council, president of the Altar Society, chair of the finance committee, CCD teacher, and greatly enjoyed acting as a warm, welcoming greeter for the parish.

Margo loved to travel. One of the founding members of the Friendship Force of Wisconsin, Margo was a wonderful ambassador for our country, making friends throughout the world as she visited 38 countries and hosted guests from abroad. She served as an ambassador or director for more than 20 exchanges. She also served as secretary, newsletter editor, historian, and, ultimately, president of the Wisconsin organization and as a member of the board of directors of Friendship Force International. In 1989, she was presented with the Friendship Force Rosalynn Carter Lifetime Achievement Award.

She was also active in many other community organizations, including the Madison area Muscular Dystrophy Association, Madison Civics Club, Madison Deanery, Better Broadcast of Wisconsin, and Madison-Vilnius Sister Cities organization.

Margo is survived by 4 children, Dennis (Yvonne), Beth (David Drake), Barbara (Kurt) DeJongh, and John, and by 4 grandchildren, Bryan and Abbie Lindl, and Rachel and Molly DeJongh. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank, two children, David and Jamie, and her brother, James Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison. Monsignor Michael Burke will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 am until the time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Maria Goretti Parish, Michael J. Fox Foundation or the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sorber, So Chiang, the staff at Sebring Assisted Living, and the staff of Agrace Hospicecare for the loving care they gave to Margo.
