Madeline A. Manning, age 70, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at UW Hospital, Madison. She was born on June 9, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Peter and Mary (Colavito) Martino. Madeline was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended St. Brendan’s High School, graduating with honors in 1962. She then moved to Southern California with her mother and great-grandfather, Theodore Colavito, to be closer to her sister and family. After years of working at the Phone Company and Universal Studios Hollywood, where she almost got run over by Raymond Burr in the parking lot, she decided to dedicate herself to being a homemaker and raising her two children.
Madeline loved Disneyland and it was truly her “Happiest Place on Earth.”She started the Disneyland tradition with her nephews and it carried on throughout her life with her children, great-nephews, grandchildren and numerous family and friends. She was able to celebrate her 70 birthday at her "Happiest Place" before moving to Madison in September of 2015. Her two favorite rides were The Haunted Mansion and The Pirates of the Caribbean. She also loved just sitting and people watching from the Coca-Cola Stand at the end of Main Street. Madeline would often say that, "When I walk through those gates, I can just leave all my cares behind and be a kid again!"
She was united in marriage to Richard Manning on March 16, 1974 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Van Nuys, Ca. She is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Donna Jensen and Nicholas Manning; grandson, Tristan Jensen; sister, Marie Abernethy; nephews, James(Brandy), Craig (Teresa Fix)and Michael (Cindy) Abernethy; great-nephews and “Disney Buddies”, Jacob and John Abernethy. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Donald Abernethy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 404 E. Main Street, with Msgr. Kevin Holmes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
