Obituary
Wisconsin Dells-Nancy C. Smith (Hoenshel), age 83, died on January 22, 2016. She was born October 14, 1932 to the late Alvie and Catherine (Myers) Hoenshel. On June 25, 1955, she married Earl Smith of Smithton, PA. Nancy was a graduate of South Huntington High School in Pennsylvania
She was an avid reader and worked as a librarian in the public system and spent time as a medical librarian at Mercy Hospital Toledo, Ohio. She retired from Physicians Mutual Insurance in Madison, Wisconsin, Nancy and Earl renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary on the Big Island of Hawaii in a traditional Hawaiian longhouse. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and more recently DeForest Evangelical Free Church.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Earl; two daughters, Cheryl (Tony) Cleveland and Cathy (Scott) Spurgat; and a son, Wayne (Linda Shawback) Smith; 6 grandchildren, Kathryn (Arthur) Bedrosian, Kristin (Aaron) Moore, Skye (Evan Zeimet) Spurgat, Mitchell Spurgat, Kelsey Smith, Mackenzie Spurgat; and 2 great grandchildren, Abigail and Aiden Moore; her siblings, John (Linda) Hoenshel, and Leslie (Marge) Hoenshell, and Charlotte (Bill) Baird-Shupe.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William Hoenshel.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be sent to the ADA for diabetes research, The American Cancer Society or Agrace HospiceCare, Inc.
Nancy’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells, Our House Assisted Living in Wisconsin Dells and Agrace HospiceCare for their care and support.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at DEFOREST EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 501 Country View Road, DeForest, with the Rev. Chuck Gaston presiding. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
