Janaan M. “Jan” (Healy) Burns, age 84, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on March 30, 1931 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Rita (Lattner) Healy. She grew up in Dubuque and graduated from Immaculate Conception where she made many lifelong friends. In her early years Jan worked at KDTH Radio Station in Dubuque. She was united in marriage to Timothy Raphael Burns on November 11, 1950 at Holy Ghost Church in Dubuque, Iowa. They then moved to Davenport, Iowa and were blessed with their two daughters, Kathy and Karen. In 1956 they moved the family to Hollandale, WI and later moved to Madison, where she began her career as a receptionist with Dane County Human Services.
Jan was known for her fantastic sense of humor and her fun loving ways. Her family was everything to her and she passed that along to her daughters and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy (Mike) Froehlich and Karen (Doug) George; grandchildren, Courtney, Kelsey and Niles George; five siblings, Tom (Beverly) Healy, Dianne (Carey) Healy-Claus, Connie (Carlton) Thomas, Denny (Mary) Healy and Joseph (Julie) Healy; sisters-in-law, Ginger Healy and Mona (Dave) Scott; and also many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim in 1966; her parents, her step-mother, Velma Healy; and siblings, Robert C. Healy, Patricia Hash and John “Jack” Healy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 601 Grover St., Hollandale, with Fr. Tom Gillespie officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, and also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery, Hollandale.
