Robert Syring

MADISON - Robert H. “Bob” Syring, 91, left his earthly life and travelled home to heaven on March 5, 2016. He was born in the town of Wien to Robert and Irma (Borchardt) Syring on August 2, 1924. He attended the local country grade school and graduated from Stratford High School in 1941. Bob attended Agriculture Short Course at UW-Madison and was a member of the ROTC.

On September 4, 1946, Bob married the love of his life, JoAnn Handrick. Together they had four children. They farmed near Stratford, and then moved to Madison in 1965. In addition to farming Bob worked as a carpenter his entire life. He was a creative problem-solver who enjoyed visiting, travelling, reading, and was dedicated to his family.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 69+ years, JoAnn, daughter Diane (Harlan) of Cornell, son Gary (Cheryl) of Stoughton, daughter-in-law Mary Free of Madison; grandchildren Rob (Em), Michael Endres, and Katie Free all of Madison, Will (Leslie) of Chicago, Emily (Derek) of Evansville; great-grandchildren Mark and Ember of Madison, and Bryanna of Anchorage. He is also survived by one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Greeting Bob in heaven were his sons Robert and Jeff, grandson Joey, his parents, brother Orville, sister Shirley, and many brothers- and sisters-in law.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, March 11, 2016 at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
