Donald Dushek

Madison-Donald E Dushek, age 92, died on Thursday, February 11,2016 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. He was born on January 18,1924 in the town of Caledonia, Columbia County, WI, the son of Edward & Jennie (Marousek) Dushek. He married Lorraine M. Nilles on Sept. 23, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church. They were married for 45 years until she died in 1995. Don was born on the family farm in Caledonia. His great grandfather settled in the wooded hills outside Baraboo from Bohemia (Prague,Czechoslovakia). His father farmed until an accident forced the family to Portage. There he ran the Dushek gas station and tavern. He graduated from Portage High School. Attended UW Madison for 2 years until he was called to military duty in the US Navy for WWll in 1943. He served 2 tours in the Navy with his last assignment in the Korean Conflict stationed in Hawaii. Lorraine joined him in Honolulu where Regina was born. Don completed electrical training in Madison and was a dedicated member of the IBEW Local 159 for 35 years until retirement. He was a dedicated and devoted member of the St. James parish volunteering his time to the needs of the school and church. A regular usher at Saturday services. Don had a passion for sports, was an avid bowler. He worked for the ABC for 20 years at the annual bowling tournaments throughout the US. Since 1995 he has followed his passion for dancing, card playing, traveling, letter writing, journaling. Don was a "student of life". His memories were his treasures. He was a spiritual soul who had a deep love for his family, his church, children in need, and people in general. Don had a deep interest in politics, avidly watched CNN following the 2016 elections.
He was a devoted father of 4, grandfather of 9, great-grandfather of 11.
Survivors include: 3 children, Regina (Keith) Krull of Cambridge,WI; Mary (Stanley) Hedrick of Madison; Steven (Laurie) Dushek of Madison; Brother, Richard Dushek of Plano, Tx; Preceded in death by : wife, Lorraine M Dushek; son, Peter F Dushek of Madison; parents, Edward & Jennie Dushek of Portage; brothers, Charles and Edward Dushek of Portage.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Good Shepherd Parish at St. James Catholic Church, 1128 St. James Court on Wednesday, Feb 17, 2016 at 11:00am with Msgr. Baxter officiating. A visitation will be held at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Rd., on Tuesday Feb. 16,2016 from 4:00-7:00pm and at church from 10:00am until the time of mass on Wednesday. Burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic cemetery later 2016. Memorial donations are suggested to Agrace Hospice, St. James School or church, local food pantry. A special thanks to all the caring staff at Agrace Hospice. Thanks to those special friends at church for your love and support so dad could attend masses and other events.
