Shirlene Hefty

VERONA – Shirlene “Lene” Hefty, age 76, made peace with the world on February 23, 2016 after losing her battle with cancer. She was born at home in “Speedway” (the current site of Menards west) on April 22, 1939, the daughter of Fred and Marie Schneider (Lienhardt).

Lene Graduated from Middleton High School in 1957, and married Wayne Hefty on September 23, 1961. She was the Guidance Secretary at Jefferson Middle School for 22 years, until 1991 when she chose semiretirement to just enjoy life. She volunteered at the Mt. Horeb Historical Society where she was involved in the initial computerized records of their artifacts. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals and special hors-d’oeuvres for friends and family as well as interacting with her 3 granddaughters as they were growing up.

Lene is survived by her husband Wayne, a son Daniel (Beth), granddaughters Krista, Anna and Mae and a great grandson Patrick. Her sister Jo (Gordon) Erickson, her brother Richard (Mary Lu) Schneider, 3 nieces and 6 nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and her older brother, Art.

A Celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona, with Pastor Jeff Jacobs presiding. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Care Center for their part in this journey, and especially the Agrace Hospice Care staff for the comfort, care and support to the very end.
