Mae Sande

DeForest/Portage - Mae Jean Sande, age 86, died peacefully at AmericanWay in Portage on Monday, February 29, 2016. Mae Jean was born May 5, 1929 in Madison, the daughter of George and Mary (Payne) Kuhlman. Mae Jean was married to her soul mate and one true love, Larry for over 60 years until Larry passed away last year. When Mae Jean and Larry were younger, they fostered many children throughout the years. After moving to Portage, Mae Jean enjoyed spending time with her friends and family playing cards or watching the Packers and Brewers play. Mae Jean and Larry would also frequently socialize at Billy’s where everyone called them “Mom and Dad.” Mae Jean was always a very cheerful, happy person and always had a smile on her face.

Mae Jean is survived by several nieces and nephews, Carol Anne Sande, Anna Sande, Harold (Shari) Sande, Ryk Sande, Linda Johnson and Jenny (Roger) Sheimo, as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Mae Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Larry, her parents, her sisters, Vera, Vi, Mary and Lona, and a brother George.

A special thank you goes to Mae Jean’s favorite nephew, Harold, and his wife, Shari, for taking care of Mae Jean and all of her needs these last several years. The family also extends many thanks to everyone at AmericanWay in Portage and Southern Care Hospice that took care of Mae Jean the last several years right up until her death. Their kindness and compassion means more than words can express.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church, 220 S. Main Street, De Forest with Rev. Richard Collier presiding. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
