Madison-Wilson, Martha (Marti) Sue, age 64, passed away on February 29, 2016.
She was born on October 2, 1951 in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the daughter of William James Wilson, III and Susan (Bartels) Painter. A graduate of UW-Eau Claire, Marti spent over 30 years working for the State of Wisconsin, administering affordable housing programs across the state.Outside of work, Marti was influential in bringing the AIDS Quilt to Madison in the early 90s and her work as a support group facilitator for individuals living with AIDS was appreciated by many.
Marti was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her best friend, David Morel, her brother, William James (Beverly) Wilson IV, and her nieces, Corianne and Amanda Wilson.
A long-time season ticket holder at the Overture Center, Marti loved the performing arts, theater and music. Marti was artistic and her 'craft room', unique games and quirky puzzles will be remembered fondly by those who knew her well.She will also be remembered for her fierce independence, abundant generosity with those whom she loved and a passion for travel that inspired her friends and family to vacation around the world.Marti was proud of her Scottish heritage and traveled to Scotland several times.She had a calming and spiritual ability to embrace the present moment and make the best of any situation life threw her way.
A Celebration of Marti's life will be held on Sunday, March 20th from 1pm-4pm at the Overture Center for the Arts, Promenade Lounge in Madison, WI.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin and/or Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
