Gordon Simle

A fine and proud Norwegian gentleman left the earth on June 4th, 2016. We were fortunate that he graced our lives. He was a wonderful soldier, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Always smiling, and with a signature chuckle, he graced us with his earthly presence for 91 years. Born in North Dakota in 1924, Gordon Earnest Simle grew up as a member of the greatest generation. Although he had a loving family with 10 brothers and sisters, life was difficult and the struggles were many. Like so many of his depression era peers, he served in the Army and Air Force in World War II and Korea. He relocated to Madison after the war, where he met and married Beva Simle (Canon) and raised Gordon, Terry, and Mike (Carol) who died in 2005.

Gordy worked for many years in construction and was a proud member of The Wisconsin Laborers Union, #464. He was also a Life member of VFW 7591. In his later years, he enjoyed his many friends at Rosewood Villas in Madison.

Gordon is survived by his adult children; Gordon V. Simle (Ellen Werdan) and Terry Walker, daughter-in-law, Carol Simle, grandchildren Gordon R. (Erin), Alicia Goss (James) Jessie Johnson (Justin), Jason Simle, Nicole Simle, Eric Simle. Great grandchildren Nolan, Montana, Skarlett, Maverick, Bennett, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Beva, and son Mike.

The family would like to thank Terry’s respite caregivers Marilyn Connell and Russell Peloquin, Visiting Physicians Association, nurses and staff of Home Health United, and Home Health Hospice, for their compassionate and loving care.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9th at Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, Madison, with a brief eulogy at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 10, at Resurrection Cemetery, Madison, where Full Military Honors will be held.
