Obituary
MADISON- Gertrude A. “Gert” Wernecke, age 86, passed away peacefully at Waunakee Manor on July 23, 2016. She was born in Janesville on October 29, 1929, the daughter of Max G. and Hattie H. (Grossklaus) Dorn.
Gert worked for AT&T for 32 years as a telephone operator and after retirement she volunteered at Olbrich Gardens and RSVP for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, square dancing and gardening. Gert was a member of Lakeview Lutheran Church since 1959.
She is survived by her children, James A. (Karen) Wernecke, and Nancy Wernecke; the light of her life, her grandson, Christopher (fiancé, Chelsee English) Wernecke; two brothers, Carl Dorn and Herbert (Carol) Dorn; a sister-in-law, Eileen Dorn; and her many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H. Wernecke in 1987; her brothers, George (Dorothy) Dorn, William “Bud” Dorn, and Max H.D. Dorn; her sisters, Anna (Arthur) Olson, Alma Demanouske, Elsie (Don) Davis, and Elaine (Dick) Manogue; and her special friend, Fred Duerst.

Gert’s family wishes to thanks Dr. Robert Alt, Dr. Marjorie DiMaggio, her hospice team: Melanie, Joanna, and Allison, and the amazing staff at Waunakee Manor for their loving care.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at LAKEVIEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Road, with the Rev. Dean Kirst presiding. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time service at the church on Tuesday.
